Forums - Sony - MGO Getting A New Mode

KylieDog said:
Those Halo modes are very few modes just with different options. They aren't different game modes.

This Bomb game for MGO is something completely new.

some of those modes do repeat but I disagree that they are same game types with different options. There is atleast 30 different game types in there now. And this gets changed monthly...the old modes such as Soccer, Grifball are not on the list...

The new MGS mode sounds very similar to...

One Bomb (12.2%, Skipped after veto) - Round-based Assault where teams alternate attempting to detonate a bomb and defending the base. Battle Rifle starts with Assault Rifle secondary weapons. The team with the most detonations after four rounds wins. Four minute round time limit.

In any case, I don't want to talk about Halo in MGS thread....i apologize.

Sounds cool...but this is pretty standard mode for most online games. Im surprised it wasn't there to begin with.

Also, if someone posted every time Halo 3 gets a new "free" game mode...there would be a new post every week.

really?  so since september 07 which is 1 year 4 months so like 64 weeks?  so 64 new modes since release?  i'd be really interested in hearing that list of different game modes.

These are current Halo 3 playlists, they were changed YESTERDAY and get updated every 2-3 weeks. 3 Ball modes were added and Grifball taken away. Count them if youd like...

Ranked Playlists

...

-Team Snipers

  • Team Snipers (79.3%) - Score points by killing players on the opposing team. First team to 50 points wins. Players start with Sniper Rifles. 12 minute match time limit.
  • Shotty Snipers (20.7%) - Score points by killing players on the opposing team. First team to 50 points wins. Players start with Sniper Rifles and Shotgun secondary weapons. 12 minute match time limit..
  • ...

i'm not sure you understand what "mode" means.

"Mode: a manner of acting or doing; method; way: modern modes of transportation." (source: http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/mode). think of it like this, driving in a car is a mode of transportation.  driving in a ford is not a different mode of transportation as driving in a toyota.

so with that in mind....team sniper and shotty sniper are variations of the same mode, "score points by killing players on the opposing team".  i went through your entire list and i would say it boils down to basically 6 modes which are pretty much the same modes present in every fps.  good effort though.   ./applaudes

You are cherry picking beyond belief. And obviously you don't play many FPS games... These modes (or game types if you will) are played drastically differently compared to one another. Each one needs different strategy and is played differently.

You probably think Swimming and running in Mario and Sonic olympics are different game modes, even though for both you shake the wii mote up and down...

Modes are based on the objective and what it takes to win. A shotgun or a sniper, the goal of the mode is to kill the other team more than they kill you.

A different game mode to above would be CTF, where the game doesn't focus on kills, instead flag captures.

That mode where you carry the skull longer than anyone else if a different mode, and so forth.

Different weapons requiring a different strategy or tactic doesn't make a new game mode.

    !!

    Bravo ! xD

    Edit : Misread.

I just got done with a session of MGO so i'll deffinetley be looking forward to this , MGO isn't nearly as active as Halo 3 (around 2.2-3K on weekdays I think) but I think it's still fun as hell.

MGO isn't the normal FPS game like Halo, I know that for sure. MGO has a different style of gameplay which could potentially make it more challengng for these modes to be implemented.

In theory you are right here however I think you know that Slayer match with Swords and Slayer match with Rifles are more different in gameplay than Capture the territory and Slayer match with Rifles for example. Sure, the end goal is different...however you still shoot anything that moves that is not your color and the battle strategies are exactly the same as regular slayer.

The only one cherry picking is you. :P

For instance, I've played many FPS where you can set the time limit of the round and even limit the guns that can be used to any number of things. Only pistols. Only grenades. Etc. And this includes MGO. You can limit the weapons to only stun weapons and cqc if you want. So according to you all of these games have a different game mode every time you switch up the time limit and weapons no matter that your still playing Capture the Flag each time. You are absolutely rediculous. Your such a damn fanboy. This thread is for talking about an entirely new game mode that wasn't possible before on MGO and you have to come in here making worthless statements like that. Your arguments are worth less then a chicken nugget from McDonalds.

Lol...easy there Solid_Raiden...you may choke on your chicken nuggets if you don't take it easy.

The fact that MGSO is adding a Bomb Assault type game almost a year later is cool...even if it is a game available in most other online games from the get go.
