E74 is a problem w/ the GPU scaler chipset (overheating) and generally leads to a solder melt which causes RRoD. Sorry man. You still have the 3 year warranty if you didn't open it up.

e74 is not covered by warranty the best thing you can do it's make it rrod. and reclaim your warranty.

OP:
Console yourself with this: if it RRoDded before Xmas, due to units needed to stock resellers, you risked more having back a refurbished unit, while now, with lower sales and larger availability of new units, MS could have more interest to fix your problem on a longer term giving you a new and more reliable unit.
