Forums - Gaming - Pachter: Assassin's Creed 2 Releases Next Fiscal Year

Sometimes, analysts will get information long before game journalists do, simply because the video game industry is indeed a business. So perhaps we can put some stock in Wedbush Morgan's Michael Pachter's Assassin's Creed 2 prediction.

Not long after the original released to widespread critical acclaim, Ubisoft refused to confirm a sequel and said it would have a lot to do with "fan feedback." In other words, if enough people wanted a sequel, they'd delver one. Well, the whispers of AC2 have begun to flit across the Internet over the past few months, and now, in a note to investors yesterday, Pachter says to expect Assassin's Creed 2 to launch "before the end of the company's 2010 Fiscal Year." If you're not aware, that runs between April 1, 2009 and March 31, 2010. The note, according to the MTV Multiplayer blog, reads as follows:

"We believe investors should focus on Ubisoft’s prospects for FY:10, particularly as its products continue to sell well on the strong Wii and DS platforms, and as it rolls out a suberb [sic] lineup. We expect solid year-over-year growth from the casual (Nintendo) games lineup, with the introduction of two new brands next fall, and expect strong revenue contribution from Assassin’s Creed 2, Splinter Cell Conviction and Avatar next fiscal year."

For those of you who completed Creed, you know it ended with a huge cliffhanger, so it would make perfect sense to produce a sequel. We're also very interested in the oft-delayed Splinter Cell: Conviction, which initially began its life as an Xbox 360 exclusive but should now be coming to the PlayStation 3 as well. Ubisoft is capable of churning out some top-quality products, so we'll keep a close eye on both titles in the coming months. All we really want is an AC2 confirmation...

Damn, so he didn't get fired last week

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

So Splinter Cell: Conviction is coming to ps3?

Meh. Im one of those that thought AC 1 was so so.

However Ubisoft gets points for not milking a succesful franchise like Activision does and actually waiting 3 years to make the game good.

FU Activision...
