Forums - Sony - Yoshinori Kitase (Square Enix) - PSP's strong performance caught my eye

I have always said the PSP is going to be a big contender in Japan. Many people on this site, with very Westernize views, still think it's all about Home consoles rather than portable consoles in Japan. Home consoles are considered secondary to hand-held consoles here.

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials

Conservatives:  Pushing for a small enough government to be a guest in your living room, or even better - your uterus.

I don't think anyone is under the impression that home consoles compare to handhelds in Japan right now.

Well that's good to hear. Now I hope full support for the PSP2 from SE! FFVII remake on PSP2 as a launch game FTW!

It's not like the PSP did not get support from the beginning, it's just that advertising and sales were so poor devs just thought "FUCK IT!" I mean even Sony hardly bother with the PSP anymore, talk about setting an example.

Capcom wants to give some support to the PSP this year, I wonder what game they could release on the PSP and get 3 million sales in no time. Darn nothing it coming to mind. :P

The PSP2 better have 2 analogue sticks and decrease piracy. There are so many games made for a handheld like PSP, the next gen PSP could see huge sales so long as piracy is kept at bay.

QFT.  Handhelds are dominating and they have been for ages now.

PSP is the platform SE has put out the best games this generation; peculiar.

I didn't know there was a steamboat chronicles sequel being developed for PS3 (Bumpy Trot 2).

"2008 was a year when Kitase spent lots of his time making Sigma Harmonics and Dissidia Final Fantasy. Among the things that caught his eye in 2008 are PSP’s strong performance and the popularity of downloadable content (DLC) for home consoles. However, he says it’s not easy to have DLC for games like Final Fantasy because it has to be a full package."

Kitase is currently working on FFXIII, Parasite Eve 3, and FFXIII Agito.

- Observes DLC is popular

- Notes Final Fantasy is not really suited for DLC

...

37 different remakes of previous Final Fantasy games for the PS3 and PSP confirmed?

WKC should have caught his eye. Seeing how well it sold on the PS3.

Because Kitase is from Square he sure loves 360 right? And it doesnt matter that all the games he is working on are on Playstation systems. Oh, and since his game is going to sell like 10-15 times more worldwide than the game you mentioned I dont see why he would care about it.

Gotta agree with that, although it's between PSP and DS for me.
