Back from the dead, I'm afraid.
Here on Spain the X360 was at 70K units by the christmas period .It improved its sales thanks to Gears of War in the Christmas period and we should add January and February sales (usually weak ) but I highly doubt it is higher than 120K-130K .For example Nintendo launched and supplied through december some 70K units and sold out so it is totally fair to assume (and Nintendo noted it ) that the Wii with its launch numbers and the very small succesive shipments of december effectively sold as much consoles as the X360 in one year .Now the PS3 will ship here with 100K units and it is already preordered so in one or two supplementary months there will be more PS3 than X360 . As for the Halo arguement I think it will be a great game but I doubt a system seller .Most Halo fans have already bought the machine anticipating it would eventually be a Halo 3 .In Europe Halo isnt that big ,and the same applies to Japan .Besides ,the X360 has a ton of very polished FPS and more on the way as Unreal 3 ,Prey 2 ,Haze (I think this one comes out also in X360 isnt it ?) and many others .....I personally dont see Halo 3 being head and shoulders over Unreal 3 or Gears of War ...specially seeing the footage we have seen right now . In my opinion there are games that sell systems but not to a enourmous degree .This opinion can be counterargued by the DS example where two or three games are pushing the sales since nearly a year (BT ,Nintendogs and Mario are quite old games ,nearly a year old the newest ) but that is another story ,a cheap machine with cheap games and a casual approach .For machines of 400+Live fees and 600 dollars there are few games that individually make you buy the machine ....a concrete game pushes some 40K sales here ,another one 30K plus ,etc .Even Final Fantasy cant manage that much of a push ...if we look at the numbers it sells approximately 2 million per territory .....and most of the buyers already have the machine when the game ships. This can be easily seen in the fast-selling pattern they show (as opposed to Brain Training and Nintendogs for example ) while the hardware sales dont improve dramatically in the launch period .How many people buy the machine to play the game then ?Some dozens of thousands not many more .

The 360 has no hope in Japan. I really don't think they'll fair too much better in Europe. 12
