Actually most ecosystems follow cyclical pattern based on reproduction rates of the lower food chain species. The biggest problem with the ecosystem in the North Atlantic is the humans hunting seals has had humans hunting seals as part of the ecosystem for a very long time. Since this ecosystem has never been observed without human interaction, it is very likely that several species could completely die out, mostly from starvation and disease.

(Kidding, I love disney movies!!)
