I think a worse punishment would be to allow the population to rise until they deplete their food source, causing a massive population crash through large scale starvation.

I would support the banning of the seal hunt if you were able to come up with a more compelling reason for besides personal preference.

It's nothing with personal preference. It's because no animal should be beat to death and dragged away and skinned while they are still alive.

As I said earlier, stop spreading FUD.

FACT: Regulation requires major arteries to be cut underneath seal's fins right after being clubbed to ensure they are dead before any skinning can be done.

Even more cruel, they watch them bleed too.

Reputation proceeds me, they told you I'm crazy, I swear I don't love the drama it loves me <3

Bird's also lay like 5 eggs, a mother seal lays 1 baby a year.. Major difference. That's irrelevant to this situation.

What does the number of babies a seal produces has anything to do with the issue in this discussion?

@mesoteto, I'm sure many of us are aware of several of the problems created by human intervention into the Australian and New Zealand ecosystems.

Cause there are way more birds than seals.

But the extinction of 1 species of bird is okay, but killing a number of seals that does not threaten the overal seal population is not okay?

One seal population is already extinct and a few more are endangered. Why should we risk more going endangered?

This was something added to the regulations specifically to appease the PETA activists that claimed seals were being skinned alive.  This is also standard practice with cows, pigs, chickens, etc. the only difference is these animals have it done behind closed doors.

I'm going to join MrBubbles and leave the conversation. I can't argue with someone who's impervious to logic.

@PS3, I am only referring to the seal population in Canada, but the population in Canada is estimated to be roughly 3 times higher than what it was in the 1970's. So from environmental studies in Canada, there is no possibility of these seal species becoming endangered. Also once an animal is declared as endangered, there are international bodies that start making things illegal.

no it not you made mention of bringing over a new preditor to help control the situation insted of hunting

this is what happens when you move speacies and take away or introduce predators

take them from some palce and introduce them to teh seals and you will have two things

where ever you took them fromm will have a pop boom of their food types and where ever you put them in unless there is a nother natural pred to help control pop they will have a bloom and insted of seals we have polar bears and shark hunts

But why should we even chance them being endangered.. It's still mean.

ust b/c you can have an opinion deos not mean its correct

it my opinion that the sun does not cause skin cancer.......

it my opinion that i am not really a man but a dog with a humane penis....

since when did "opinion" mean we have to except false info as fact?

and they are leaving b/c your being stubborn and just arguing for attention--there are better ways--trying cutting it seems to work for those emo kids
