Forums - Gaming - How Will The Big New Wii Games Do This Year?

i wish Madworld and Sin and Punishment 2 could sell a lot of copies. Those are my first Wii purchases since Mario Kart Wii.

This year there will be 80 to 120 Million peices of software sold for the Wii in every region ... Some of this will be existing software, some of it will be bundled software, and quite a bit of it will be Nintendo software but that still leaves 80 to 120 Million peices of new third party software to be sold on the Wii in 2009.

Now we know that the top 50 or 100 games for a console in a year generally get the lion's share of the game sales, and it is highly likely that the Wii could have 25 to 50 new third party games sell a million (or more) units of software this year. Now if the highly anticipated games can't break 1 Million what games will?

With that in mind ... Your prediction that bothers me the most is Sonic because I thought Sonic and the Black Night was made by the same team that made Sonic and the Secret Rings which was a rushed game, had an average review of 70% and sold 2.09 Million units on the Wii.

Yeah, but only the informed gamer thinks like that. The average joe walking into a game store won't think "hmm, this game was made by the same people that made Secret Rings - perhaps I shall purchase". Nope, people will buy this game because it's Sonic. Which is how every Sonic game now sells. That being said, I probably did underestimate the sales. But I'm going to stick by the review average. It really makes me laugh when a new Sonic game is announced and people see trailers and get all excited. The usual quote seems to be "yeah, Sonic games have been rubbish for years, but this game looks awesome and could break the trend". Then the game is released and people realise it's not that awesome. IMO, the same will happen with the Black Knight. The sooner thae Sonic Team realise that they will have a great game on their hands by taking the side-scrolling elements of Unleashed and turning it into an entire game, the better.
