Forums - General - Burt Bacharach, genius or hack?

I expect to get somewhere around three people to know who the fuck he is and respond to this but here goes:

Genius.

Say a Little Prayer/Always Something There/What's New Pussycat?/Baby It's You/Raindrops Keep Fallin' On My Head/They Long To Be Close To You/Walk On By.

Has a single writer ever impacted pop culture as much as he did during his time?

Only Irving Berlin.

I have the original Casino Royal sound track, featuring Burt Bacharach and the Tijuana Brass band. It's pretty awesome.

Yet, today, America's leaders are reenacting every folly that brought these great powers [Russia, Germany, and Japan] to ruin -- from arrogance and hubris, to assertions of global hegemony, to imperial overstretch, to trumpeting new 'crusades,' to handing out war guarantees to regions and countries where Americans have never fought before. We are piling up the kind of commitments that produced the greatest disasters of the twentieth century.

Well shit, that was an unexpected surprise. At the best I expected Henry Mancini but you delightfully surprised me.

Album recommendation for Bacharach "beginners".

I should have known that okr would come in to do the dirty work that I couldn't be bothered with.

Bacharach gets no credit. It's a damned shame.

BTW, that link does no justice to Dusty Springfield. OMG, c'mon.

BTW, you're just tempting to make me create a thread about the amazing voice of Karen Carpenter.

You're a wily little bastard, ain't ya?

Of course I am.

Album recommendation for Bacharach afficionados (despite the stupid Easy Loungin' title this is my favourite Bacharach compilation of instrumentals - unfortunately it's out of print today).

Off to work now, I think I've never been later...will listen to Burt's music & Hal's Lyrics on the car. Thanks for the good start in the day, Mr. Beauchamp.

You're welcome and I guarantee it was my pleasure.

BTW, the pig is back. Listening to Nico and loving it but that's another discussion, isn't it?
