Forums - Gaming - Sony Opens 2009 With a Bang: Dissidia and Monster Hunter Take Top Two Spots

Japan - First Week of the year Media Create results are in, and Sony opens with a whopper: Dissidia, Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G, White Knight Chronicles, Gran Turismo 5 Prologue Spec III, and Gundam Musou 2 are all in the top ten, representing over 159 thousand units sold.

Nintendo answers back with its own heavyweights, Rhythm Tengoku Gold (now at 1.5 million sold), Wii Fit, the ever-growing phenomenon of Girl's Mode, Kirby Super Star Ultra, and Mario Kart also all reaching the top 10 again this week.

Is Sony back, or is this a short-lived planetary-alignment of big releases?

Thread title seems a bit over dramatic for what is being posted given that one is a new Final Fantasy game, one is a PSP game that has always had monster legs and has had a recent re-release, 1 is a big Sony PS3 game that just came out couple of weeks ago and one is a bundled game.

This is one region only, and none of these sold even 50000 units this week. When Sony has 4 of the top ten WW, its signs of a comeback. Also when the OP shows (PSP the best) as the Monster Hunter platform it becomes clear that this is just a fanboy post.

PSP sure has garnered some momentum as of end of 08'. Hopefully the PSP's strengths will become greatly noticed in the western market as well. (they have enjoyed success in the Asia markets as well)

I think PSPwill really do well in Asia 2009. They have a lot of good games coming, and third parties seem to be on board.

You mean Square Enix and Capcom start off with a bang. Considering they are the ones that made that.

Not to mention seems a little over exaggerated. Never mind, that previous sentence is an understatement. How ironic.

But, PSP has really established itself well in Japan. So well, that none of the consoles can compete as its been virtually the two handhelds getting the majority of hardware and software sales.
