Rumor: Next Grand Theft Auto Could Hit By The Holidays

We'd think that the next proper Grand Theft Auto game, Xbox 360-exclusive expansions notwithstanding, is a long way off. Not Game Informer, though. The magazine is reportedly expecting the next entry by end of year.

Sounds crazy, doesn't it? Didn't Grand Theft Auto IV just ship? Well, if Game Informer's "Loose Talk" is correct, pegging the next full-fledged GTA for, say, November 2009, it would put it about 18 months after the ship date of GTA IV.

Since Vice City shipped almost exactly a year after Grand Theft Auto III, however, makes the prospect seem less ludicrous.

Rockstar Games still has two downloadable episodes to ship this year, including The Lost and The Damned, which hits in February and another that remains undated.

Could they do it? We're not updating our Amazon wish lists just yet, but we're also not ruling it out. Take-Two and Rockstar do like money, after all. But we're checking in with them soon to find out how feasible a fourth quarter release could be.

sounds plausible if they do a vice city style think with gta4. or maybe they are just making a gta4 special edition, with all the dlc n such on a disk (maybe even on a bluray)

i won't happen, unless they have being developing it from a good time now or are planning on rehashing most from the last installment

Rumors get more and more outrages all the time, and strangely more frequent.

But i guess that is what is expected during the super boring times after the holidays. people want big new to talk about so they make up something

I doubt it. And really, they shouldnt be rushing, they should be spending the time to make it good

It's possible, if Take Two commanded it. I don't think Rockstar would appreciate being pushed into it, but Take Two needs sales to boost their stock (considering that shareholders must be pissed that the company is now worth less than they could have gotten from EA a while ago), and GTA is the one certainty they have

I doubt it... will we even see the second DLC episode in 2009?

Welcome to the "Rumor time" of the year...

The period between the new year and the GDC. This repeats itself from mid-June until E3, and then again a few weeks before TGS in fall.

Well they gave a pretty good example to back up the crazy sounding of this rumor, Vice City released just one year after GTA III, so why can't they do it again.

I wouldn't be surprised, the legs of GTA IV are pretty bad but the overall sales are still pretty good. They might want to milk it as much as possible, quickly.
