Forums - Gaming - How much does it cost to produce/manufacture Xbox 360 and Wii?

Actually, my prediction is that the PS3 shall eventually be cheaper than the Wii, in much the same way as the more powerful GC and xbox became cheaper than the PS2

only estimations.
360 should be around 230$.
for the arcade but they make it back with live and accesories.

and the wii should be dirt cheap to manufacture.

the gamecube in 2005 was 99$ to retail. in 2009 wii should cost nothing.

Gamecube 1 = $99

Gamecube 2 = $99

Duct Tape = $1

Therefore Wii at $199 should still be profitable.

that was a joke right!? :D

No No No.
Gamecube is already profitable at $60 retail.
So, a guesstimate of it would be $20 to manufacture.

Cost to make,
2x Gamecubes + 1x Duct tape = $40.0001 dollars.

However, depending on the quality of duct tape and the possibility of sharing the roll among buyers. The final price may be anywhere from $120 - $125 to make a Wii.

So their profit margin is still quite low, with only twice the manufacturing price.

I thought the duct tape joke got old by the first post in this thread about it.

Yeah, I finally have a sig.

These jokes are hillarious to be honest but I'd be more glad with some serious figures :)

Between a joke and the other Jo21, Bboid and scottie gave some figures, and as the PS3 ones are quite consistent with sources cited by Wikipedia, estimating roughly all savings Wii and XB360 enjoy compared to PS3, also their figures should be decent estimates (keep in mind that Bboid gives an estimate of Nintendo profit, while scottie gives an estimate, I think a little bit on the low side, of total profit, to be divided amongst Nintendo, wholesalers and retailers).

I think the X360 arcade costs around $270 to produce...

About the Wii I guess around 100 bucks.
