Forums - Gaming - New FFXIII info, releases in 2009

Even in France, the biggest market behind UK, we nearly always get the crappy english version with french subtitles.
The only games that don't are those that have very few dialogs and that are succesful, at least in other regions.
So they are really rare, and for FF we always get the crappy english version.
Of course, as we don't get our language, the best course of action would be at least to get the original japanese voices. But no, instead, we get these crappy english voices, which doesn't make any sense (actually it does but only for laziness).
To understand how retarded it is for english speakers, just imagine getting all your japanese games dubbed in french and subtitled in english.
The latest game I got that had native language was the Fire Emblem for Wii, which is why I bought the european version.
And you can be sure if the previous FF weren't in native language with crappy english versions, this will be the case for FFXIII too. That's why I always import. I won't support such shitty behaviour. That's also one of the core advantage the PS3 had: region free and enough space to hold both original voices and the crappy english ones.

....Why does everyone assume that Square will continue to follow it's outdated business model of delaying games Western release?

Look at every SE game on the 360 - Every project - IU, TLR and SO4 - have released in American and Europe within 3 weeks of the JP release. Why not FFXIII?

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

@Mrstickball - hmmmm...let's see....cause it's Square???? Cause it's Final Fantasy???? Cause it's PS3????

Because if I remember correctly they will begin to develop X360 version after they complete PS3 version.  And because MS moneyhatted SE to delay PS3 version western release date to match X360 version release date I don't think we will see western FFXIII in long time.

Sorry, I don't buy into the 'Because MS moneyhatted SE to delay the PS3 version'.

Lets play the game called 'real life business decisions' - You know, the ones where Square choses to develop the X360 version of XIII because they wanted to make more money on the game.

Because of that, and Squares' commitment to attempt to release games in the West quickly, I don't see any major barriers to Square delivering the Western version quickly. Regardless of what you want to believe, XIII has not been made for the PS3 exclusively and has a magical advantage in being brought to the West. As much as you want to argue that they're porting the 360 version, the fact is, both the PS3 and 360 versions are being ported from the PC to their respective systems - which would make me believe that the Western version will come out as quickly as it's translated. Also, Square has 3 Xbox 360 titles released (if not more) before XIII releases - each should help the development of the 360 version (one should also note 0 titles have been released for the PS3 - it's their first title). That, again, should help negate any issues of the 360 version delayed production of the game in the West.

This reads like nonsense to me.
The 3 JRPG published by Square on the XB360 were either not developed by Square at all, or weren't using their Crystal engine. So there's absolutely zero advantage in development speed there.
Unless the XB360 port is rushed, of course it will delay everything else except the japanese PS3 version.

So what company made The Last Remnant, again? The credits show that a few people that worked on Final Fantasy XII worked on The Last Remnant - and I may be wrong, but Final Fantasy XII was a Square developed game, correct?

I'll agree that none were made using the Crystal Engine, but CE was designed to be deployed on the 360 just like the PS3, so the architecture has already been in place for any CE game to be rapidly deployed to both the PS3 and 360.

Sure, I'll buy that, but you've stated yourself in the followup of that post that they've failed to give the PS3 owner anything to play, so where does this "because they want to make more money"-BS fit in there?

Or is it exclusively for FF that this counts. I doubt that they only want to maximize profit on this game. So they are pretty much talking out of their behinds.

Why would they give many exclusives to the 360 and none to the PS3 if "money" is their goal? Makes no sense.

@ ookaze: no offense, but English crap is still better than any dubbed version in French, German, Italian or whatever :-/ (I refer to basically every show and movie on God's green earth)

Still my point stands that X360 version will be developed after PS3 version is complete. SE has themselves said that. And even SE can't do X360 version in couple of months if we assume that Japan release date for PS3 version is somewhere at fall. And of course SE wants to make money and that is the reason for X360 version. But X360 version of FFXII will delay western release date and that is the fact. Because like I have repeated many times, when PS3 version is complete they will make X360 version and I don't see any other reason for delaying PS3 version western release date than MS has moneyhatted them

Wait a sec, is this turn-based now? Because if it is it will skyrocket to #1 of my most wanted games for 2009!!
