I know ... FishyJoe is a very bad man who forced Sony to lose money, and then forced large news agencies to report about Sony losing money, just so he could create a thread that was negative about Sony.

Is today like "bash" Sony day, or what?

Oh wait.. thats almost everyday :(..

Sony has done a lot of it to itself, kind of the way that Sega did awhile back.

Nah, Sega effectly made 4 bad hardware choices in a row.

CD, 32X, then rushed the Saturn THEN rushed the Dreamcast.

Sony just made 1 mistake and the PS brand is still incredibly strong... i mean look at europe.

Sega's experiments were not nearly as expensive as Sony's overextending.

THIS.

Its troubling to see this happen again.  And, as I stated in another thread, going back to Howard Stringer's tongue-in-cheek comment about Sony not making back its PS3 investment in "his lifetime" and looking at in relative to the company's current financial situation, the ridiculous notion of SCE being shut down isn't so ridiculous anymore.  CSK shut down Sega's hardware division with much smaller losses IIRC.

Once again NJ5 proves himself to be the best source of financial information VGC has to offer. I know it irritates some sony fanboys to hear the truth, but it is what it is. No need to stick your head in the sand and pretend everything is okay. The ps3 isn't going to die anytime soon, but anything is possible in these dire economic times.

Thanks again for the informative links and citations!

I think Sony had several big right offs Q3 & Q4 (maybe even before that as well) before the Q1 and Q2 profits you posted.  So it was almost a given that they would be in profit those 2 quarters.

There has to be some misunderstanding here. The Q3 and Q4 results aren't out yet, I just calculated them based on the OP's news article and the known Q1/Q2 results.

Q3 and Q4 of the previous year, not this current one.

wow... after reading this i can only say one thing... even though this is the exact saying that got me banned... im glad im not sony... awaits my 2nd ban

Not good at all, some serious losses there. Still can't see the gaming division being touched until Sony are really go belly up and in a business as big as Sony billions can be gained easily. Will be interesting to see how things go but no doubt they will figure something out, there is a reason they have been around for 50+ years and people here posting doom and gloom threads about Sony are shelve stackers at Tesco's. ;)

whats tescos? i might go apply for a job
