I have the first game, and truth be told, I think it's a piece of s**t. Boring and repetitive gameplay at it's finest.

I've heard from many people/forums that the second game is far superior compared to the first, and quells the same issues that I had with the first game.

My question is about the story. If I sell the first (never beat it) and buy the second, will I be lost in terms of story? Is it worth it to force my way through this game (I hear it's short), so that the sequel is more enjoyable?

well thats your opinion and you wont really get to lost. since the 2nd one has the backstory of the 1st game in it so your good either way. and if you can find the 2nd BUY IT NOW ASAP

I liked the first one, but I haven't played it since 2001. Nostalgia may be blinding me.

Second Runner is far superior, the game is relatively short but well worth it. Storyline is ok, english voice acting so-so, music feels like soemthing from Yoko Kanno (bizarre gibberish at times but strangly satisifying) and gameplay was pretty fun. Top stuff!

I bought Second Runner the day it came out on the PS2 without having ever played the original. I loved it and didn't feel like I was missing out on any background story. I have since purchased a used copy of the original but never gotten around to playing it. I should do that at some point just to see what base the second game (an absolute masterpiece) was developed from.
