So I'll bring up this point again: Gears of War 3 360 confirmed? I mean, if the system is going to be out another 3-4 years before the 720 is out that should give them plenty of time to finish the trilogy on the 360.

They have no reason to lie. Extending the life of the 360 simply makes the best business sense from all apects, especially considering the current economic climate.
