Forums - Gaming - New Megaman Almost-Confirmed

I just looked up the Megaman series on Wikipedia and was shocked to find out that there are like 40 games already... I think I've played some of the NES classics, but that was so long ago.

Are the newer series any good? X, Zero, ZX? Gotta say I hate the anime art style, all those new characters look awfully bland.

But I'm in the mood to play some old school platforming - maybe I should go play the old ones via Virtual Console and MM9 on Wiiware.

Currently playing: NSMB (Wii)

Waiting for: Super Mario Galaxy 2 (Wii), The Last Story (Wii), Golden Sun (DS), Portal 2 (Wii? or OSX), Metroid: Other M (Wii),
... and of course Zelda (Wii)

Megaman X 1-4 are frikkin incredible, the rest is bad to terrible (though I never played 8 which somebody is saying was good).

Zero I only played the first one, but it's a whole different beast. It's barely a megaman game. It's a good game though.

Newer series?  The original Megaman X for the SNES is almost 16 years old.

I personally think the original SNES Megaman X games were the best incarnations of Megaman ever made.  Megaman ZX and ZX Advent are the runner up games with the original Megaman titles following them.

In the end, as long as this new game isn't from the Battle Network garbage series, I'll be happy.

X was amazing until X5. The series since then began to suck (except for X8 and the RPG game.)

The Zero series is really different, but it's rather fun too, you should give it a try. The ZX series is similar to Mega Man Zero but it's still different in its own right. Plus it has E-Tanks and W-Tanks as secret items, that's awesome. :D

And yes, you should get Mega Man 9 for the WiiWare. It's one of the best Mega Man games I've ever played.

By the way, am I the only one that thought Battle Network and Star Force were actually good games? I mean sure it's really nothing like Mega Man but I thought they were fun. The 3rd Battle Network game got me into Mega Man (although I prefer Classic Mega Man over any series). Battle Network 4 can burn in hell though.

I wish they would really let Megaman die since Capcom can't seem to be convinced to throw more than five bucks at any given title. Let's look forward to how the localization of the game is going to be bastardized in the West.

Because dialogue and story has always been a key element in Megaman games...

Oh look, Wily is trying to take over the world.  *runs off*

Megaman in fact has become dialogue and story driven in these recent years. Though your use of a villain who hasn't been in a Megaman Game since 1994 (save the crappy Megaman 8) would indicate you're not exactly up on the series. Let's also not forget award winning japanese music typically replaced with shitty casio techno beats in western releases, removed content like in the Megaman Legends games and voice acting in games like MMX7 that force a player to mute their TV. Many of these matters really go beyond the conventions of mere aesthetic taste.

Oh but what am I saying, let's just fall all over what ever scraps are fed us and ignore the naysayers and people who yearn for quality, they just hate fun.

I, for one, would like to see a Megaman done in the same way they did Metroid Prime.

With the exception of the ZX games, Megaman has overall become quite craptastic in the last decade or so.  The Legends games were so-so and the Battle Network games just plain suck.  I think it's mostly because they took the gameplay that made Megaman games so amazingly fun and popular and threw it in a dumpster.

When it comes to the next Megaman game... gameplay is my number one concern.  Megaman 9 and the ZX games are proof to me that Capcom can still make Megaman titles I will enjoy playing.  I know they can make great titles if they really want to.
