Forums - Gaming - Killzone 2: Why would anyone want to invade Helghast?

I have been seeing the demo videos for Killzone 2, and it is appears to be miles and miles of GREY and brown, and the environment looks uniformally the same, and BORING.  Outside of, "WOW, look at the EXPLOSIONS and FIRE and ANIMATION and PARTICLES FLYING ALL OVER and DUST", what exactly is appealing here?  I don't get the motivation at all for invading or why anyone would want such a sorry state.  The entire thing feels like there is a GIANT plot twist set up near the end, where you realize the invaders are actually pure evil, and the Helghans are right to feel persecuted.

Even if this is a breakthrough in technical prowless, with a ton of bells and whistles, and a cool engine, from an ARTISTIC perspective, can anyone explain why this is supposed to be first rate?  Gears 2 and Resistance 2 both look like they have better artistic design, as does Uncharted.

And someone goes and says it looks better that Crysis?  Such undo hyping causes myself to look extra critically at it, asking things like: "Is this REALLY better looking than Crysis?"

Ok, so can someone explain why Helghast is worth invading.

Gears 2 has a lot of grays and R2 looks crappy compared to K2

richardhutnik, your seeing the same thing I am. Which is another average war-based FPS. Killzone 2, once again, looks like Medal of Honor: Killzone. WELL IT HAS TEH PARTICLE FX!!!!!!!!

lol.

GOTY Contestants this year: Dead Space 2, Dark Souls, Tales of Graces f. Everything else can suck it.

Gears 2 has plant life and weather you dealt with.  What I see here is cityscapes and dust.  It looks like it is the same thing over and over again.  Resistance 2 also seems to have a more diverse range of environments.

What are you trying to say? You don't think the graphics are good (I hope not) or the story isn't good(if you've already played the game please let me know where I can get my copy)?

So a shooter has to be flashy, bright and like that?

Watch band of brothers, watch Saving private ryan, they are also very gritty and filmed with a certain colour palette. And that film and that series are excellent.

They made a choice to make the helghast planet a grim dark one. I can't see why this should the reason to bring the game down. If it fits the game, then it fits.

And to answer your topic question: Why would one invade a country / planet that has just tried to invade you? To end the threat.

I heard that scenery changes when you're later in the game.

What I am seeing, based upon the videos being show, is an environment that isn't diverse.  It is an ARTISTIC choice, not one of technical prowless.  Also, not sure if it would be different.  Helghast is one giant dustball, based on what I know of the backstory.  The question is, based on story and artistic direction, why would anyone care about Helghast?  This question comes out of the art of storytelling not technical prowless.  If it wasn't for other games having diverse environments, it wouldn't be as much of an issue, but they do exist.

Today I was asking myself why would an army wear those lights in the eyes, in war it's just suicide. An enemy could see them from a far distance =|.

Anyway you can't question the history if you haven't played the game yet.

I know... my english sucks

I hope they show some clips of that.  As of now, it appears to be a lot of dust and grime, which would end up not appearing to be appealing.  At this point, I just don't care about Helghast at all.  And this comes from artistic choices, not technical prowless.
