A B Left Right Up Down + - 1 2 Home Z C Stick = 12 + 1 Stick So the diff is 5 + 1 stick... but take into account double motion sensing and pointer... Pointer = more evolved stick Motion on Wiimote = pull Push left right up down twistR twistR = 8 entries Motion on Nunchuck = errr up down right left? is there more I dunno :p = 4 entries So yeah pointer and motion is hard to combine all the time, but they can and you have way more entries in the Wii mote than with a traditional controler. The big difference is the position of the buttons that makes it more difficult to do combos (try up + 2 on the wii mote) The future in gaming is intuitive controls...not less controls |
Yes the Wiimote is not entirly innocent but definatly a far more attractive and simple i dont agree about including the nun-chuck it is an optional extra and not used on many games.
I think that the Wii games rarely use all of the controls many have very simple 2 button and either motion or pointer only. Yes Sadly many games try to use them all especially on the playstaions , Xboxes, and ninrtendos earlier systems. Here is an example of a control scheme for a typical game.

it's quite bad really - fortunalty the Wiimote pointer feature is so powerfull and like a touch screen or mouse or touch pad on a PC - i think a few simple and powerfull controls which are easy to use is best. A pc mouse needs only 2 buttons and XY cursor to operate a complex computer system. The WiiMote/ Mouse /touchscreen all use a simple mechanic of pointing which most people who never use a console before can immediatley understand and use and not only that allow them to play a well as hardcore gamers on traditional thumbstick controllers - no wonder the Wii is so easy to sell anyone can use it ! While games on the other consoles seem like a mish mash of difficult to use pressure sesitive buttons and fiddly thumbsticks which are slow and awkward for most non gamers to use, and take months or years of practice to master.

I was researching games and devices to help a disabled person though i think some of the accessibility ideas are apply to casual gamers also the site has some excelent examples of simple play mechanics even including many excellent games with just one button !.
