You do realize that Wii Sports has a 45% attach rate in Japan, where it is not bundled?  What other game has had that kind of an attach rate without bundles?

I'm pretty sure it is a full price game in Japan.

Yes, and those very good sales, in Japan.  Where the game is actually sold.

Japan ! = Rest of world.

Your point does not apply to what i posted above in any way whatsoever.

It would do the same in the rest of the world.  If you don't think that, then I don't really know what to think about you.

So, were you screaming the same about Super Mario Bros. since most of its sales were in a bundle?

You are saying all regions have identical attach rates on games?  Oh please, you know that is bullshit as much as I do.

If you read what I actually wrote you would see how SMB and Wii Sports are not the same.  SMB was not a 100% bundle and it was sold alone at retail in all regions.  Wii Sports is a 100% bundle and isn't sold alone where it is bundled.

Please, oh please take this somewhere else, I am begging you

Or I'm goign to start quoting this whole conversation.

You can buy the thing off of Nintendo for 20 dollars

@KylieDog, you can buy Wii Sports alone in every single region from nintendo.com (for $15) or on eBay, where it costs even more ($25-$40).

Stupidest thing I've ever heard was "Rare came up with Miis before Nintendo."

The dispute is not whether or not it would have had the same level of commercial success had it not been bundled, file that in the 'what if' basket, the issue is with the tag 'best-selling'.

Most people can find fault with this 'label', thus feuding the contentious debate of its use in this instance. ioi *ahem* Brett must have realised the issue and changed the article on the site to read 'most successful' instead. 'Most owned' would probably be fairer because it's success can't be measured financially or by 'what would have been it's individual sales' scenarios but by a mere attachment statistic.

The important fact is that no one is denying it's success, it's clearly number 1 for a console game. Obviously it doesn't need stipulating that this refers to console games...pfft solitaire.

I can name a bunch I've hard ever since this gen began:

"360 is just as powerful as a computer"

"Wii is just a fad, it will die by the end of 2007, might make it till 2008..."

"LBP will kill Mario"

"PS3 [or any console for that matter] has no good games"

The list really goes on, but I might add more if I'm inclined to.

When I was about 11 (1993), a friend of mine said Sega were bringing out a new console where it would have 4 CD drives (one on each side) and 2 catridge slots on the top for the ultimate gaming expericance!

I smell...I smell B*LL*HIT!!!

"Wii Sports is a 100% bundle and isn't sold alone where it is bundled."
Do you really want to me to add this quote? Because on facts, that isn't true. 70-80% bundle maybe. I know Japan it isn't bundled, and I'm pretty sure in other Asian countries it's not bundled.
I know when I bought the NES, SMB was bundled. I don't know where else it was bundled.

Ooh that reminds me... I heard the same shit, and right about the same time too.  This kid in 4th grade was new to the school and didn't have any friends yet, so he told us all he had some supercomputer gaming device that could play any game on NES/SNES/Genesis/TG-16/PC.  I think our teacher told him to find common interests with us, and he knew we were all into games.  We didn't believe him and we told him to bring his super system to school... and he said he'd bring it tomorrow, which shut us all up.  But then it was just some gigantic calculator thing with a couple edutainment games on it that couldn't do any of the things he said.  Looking back I feel bad for the kid 'cuz it had to suck to be in a new town with no friends and so desperate you come up with crazy lies to fit in, but at the time, he got super-owned and it was the stupidest thing I'd ever heard.

I personally think "Casual Gamer" and another term I've heard is "tacked on waggle control."

Pacman taught people to run around in dark rooms munching on pills while listening to repettive techno music and for that I somewhat idolise him.
