HappySquirrel, Ii don't know what kind of experience you speak from, but you saying that puts me at ease a tad. The idea that costs won't skyrocket again is a bit of a relief, regardless of how the graphics race goes.

Sony had an "impressive" display of 3D tech at CES 2009. Perhaps this is what you are talking about?
