Forums - Microsoft - Microsoft has very high hopes for Halo 3 (surpassing box office record)

Actually......

Spiderman 3 didn't have an opening day of $151 million dollars - it had an opening weekend of $151m (thats Fri-Sun). So that's over 3 days.

The current box office record for 1st day is Spiderman 3, with $59.8 million dollars - or 1 million units of regular Halo 3 copies

Now, having said that, you have CEs and Legendary copies that will surely boost the average cost of Halo.

Both records are easily obtainable - All you'd need is 1m sales first day, and around 2.7m by the end of 3 days.

Likewise, POTC: Dead Man's Chest is the #1 movie for opening weeks at $196m, or around 3.2m copies of H3.

So I am unsure which record Microsoft wants to beat - opening day, and first 3 days is do-able, but the opening week (7 days) might be hard.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

well it's like I never saw what was the big deal with MGS, or what was the big deal with GT (which is not the best simulation by the way, great game no the best) or any big title on any other console.... it's a question of taste....

now I use to play a lot of FPS on PC.... I still haven't found one that gives me the satisfaction of halo...... give me some example..... I crave to try those FPS I hear people vaguely talk about but that we never hear the names.....

lol if they beat all the records with Halo 3 I know a lot of people will be pissed of jealousy :)

I don't really understand the comparison of an item in this situation that costs 5x as much as the other. So you make more money... But technically sold fewer. Funny how the videogame industry almost exclusively goes by hardware/software #s until they need to use revenue/profit to show larger numbers.

To cash in my CC rewards points for $300 in Circuit City gift cards to purchase a 360 or not: That is the question.

@mrstickball
I agree with what you said, just wanted to share, this is what I read/gathered from what microsoft said
"With "Halo 3," Microsoft's Xbox unit wants not only to top the 2004 figure but to reach $155 million in a single day -- besting the $151 million opening weekend for "Spider-Man 3," the current record holder for a pic at the box office." - from kotaku
So they want to beat Spider Man 3's opening weekend in one day.

@endimion
My personal favorite shooter (outdated now) Tribes Starsiege Vengeance... however it is free off fileplanet. I played the renegades mod the most.
More Personal favorites: Unreal Tournament 2004, Quake 3
Other popular ones: Farcry, Rainbow 6, and counterstrike

Don't get me wrong I think halo did a lot right And a few things wrong... as well. I am not going to get into what i like/dislike about halo or any other game on here cause those are all personal preferences

 I played all these countless hours with rocket arena etc... I'm sorry but those games even if they are great and I love them... are not really original in any means... and really poor beside FRAGING FRAGING FRAGING.... I mean no story are really poor one... no really original ennemies... no original weaponerie (for some of them)... the maps well not really original too... I mean it's great games to have fun...

what I like in halo is that infact I never played a FPS like that before...it made me feel like finally we had something new in that area....

like right now I feel the same with JRPG... there are shit load since FFVII but none got me that feeling of renewall...

you see what I mean ?

Well it almost never hurts to aim high. It's certainly a plausible goal, all Halo 3 would have to do to reach it is sell as well as Halo 2 did on day one. Add in the much heavier emphasis on the more pricey collector's editions this time and it doesn't even have to do as well as Halo 2. While the 360 has a smaller install base than the Xbox did in Nov 2004 I think, MS fanboys protestations aside, that most Halo fans (ie the people who buy it on day one) have either already bought a 360 or will be in the next month so that shouldn't be too big of an obstacle.

Yes, yes they are.

While at my local Gamestop today, I overheard a person working there that they had 1400 preorders at their store alone. It also was the last week to get a preorder in. Of course, everyone purchasing a game they automatically ask "Do you need to preorder Halo?"
I don't live in the largest town so those numbers are pretty high for a single Gamestop. Within a 5 minute drive there's also a Walmart & Target.
