Xbox outsells PS3 2:1 while PS3 has better exclusive lineup
By Mike Ferro
Microsoft recently announced that according to internal estimates, the Xbox 360 outsold the PS3 two to one in the U.S. for the month of November. If this is true, then that is definitely an amazing feat for Microsoft. However, Sony fanboys don’t have to fret as according to a recent head-to-head study by IGN AU, it seems that the PS3 had the better exclusive lineup for 2008.
There is more than enough good news to go around for everyone. To quell the fanboys I am bringing a piece of good news for both the Xbox 360 and the PS3.
Microsoft’s congenial Aaron Greenberg recently announced that the Xbox 360 outsold the PS3 by 2:1 in November. That is big news considering the state of the economy as it is currently. Greenberg also took some more jabs at the PS3 by referencing the competitor, stating that the PS3 costs too much. He gives himself and Microsoft a nice pat on the back by complementing on the decision to market the Xbox 360 Arcade for $199.
He also indicated that people won’t buy the PS3 due to the state of the economy because of its price tag. He said, “They are a premium priced product in a tough economic time. They have a tough position to try and sell a product.”

I definitely agree that it will be a tough holiday for Sony as the PS3 has remained $399 for two years now. Most consumers are tightening their belts in anticipation of the recession.
Sony needs to get on the ball and drop the price if the company wants to compete with the Xbox 360. It really is surprising how the times have changed when considering that I originally purchased the PS3 for $600 and my Xbox 360 Elite for around $500.
Recently IGN AU reached into its reservoir to do a head-to-head comparison of which console had the best exclusive lineup for 2008. The results indicate that the PS3 had a better lineup this year than the Xbox 360. I have to agree with IGN here. In 2007 the Xbox 360 had the better exclusive lineup with games like Bioshock and Mass Effect. However, this year the PS3 takes the cake with great games such as Metal Gear 4, LittleBigPlanet and Resistance 2.
If you watch Gametrailer’s Invisible Wall, Shane Satterfield the Editor in Chief of Spike TV and Gametrailers, made a very compelling argument as to why the PS3 had a better game lineup for 2008 as well. Even though these claims are made on a review score basis, that doesn’t necessarily mean that the Xbox 360 had a horrid game lineup. The Xbox 360 also had a great lineup with Gears of War 2 and Fable 2 this year; the PS3 just managed to nudge it out by a bit.
I wonder what console will have the killer lineup in 2009 - will it be the year of the Xbox 360 or the PS3? Also, what highly anticipated games are you looking forward to in 2009? Make sure to catch the 2008 Video Game Awards show this Sunday on Spike TV, presented by Gametrailers. For those who do not have access to Spike TV, don’t worry as I will put up the winners along with my take on the results here on Gamer.Blorge.
