Forums - Sony - Sony on the brink of corporate upheaval, drastic changes

During 2009, articles like these will be aplenty so if you're a Sony fan fasten your seatbelt.

If you're a Sony fan you've been fastened since "Five Hundred and Ninety-nine dollars".

I'm ready to take my seat belt off.

This change could be good or bad.

I dont care, aslong as there gaming area is fine and in-tact then so be it.

They really are into eveything theres no need for it anyway, they should just be a straight gaming and movie company.

i love sony and would honestly hate to see them go under (I don't think they will go bankrupt by the way) but its about time. With their cocky attitude and their sloppy handling of the ps3 they kind of deserve what they are getting. Hopefully they will pull their stuff together and come back alot harder in the future. But for now they need ALOT of work

Anyone who says "So long as the gaming division isn't touched" - are you pretending that it probably won't be touched? I mean, that is a form of pretending! They've had huge losses for a while now, and it's one of the most cash-bleeding parts of the company.

Given the number of consoles sold thus far, they would be wise to close down a few of their SCE studios to lower their overall operating expenditure. If HD Publishers lost money this generation and they target 100% of the HD market how can SCE studios be assumed to be profitable? Their big games tend to be expensive and long in development with an unknown quantity of bundling throwing us off their real sales figures.

Most HD-centric publishers release quite a few duds.  Sony is the opposite (outside of Lair, and they don't even own the developers).  I could see Sony ending the NBA series, and maybe making some small changes elsewhere, but their games in general sell very well.  7 out of the top 20 best selling ps3 games are published by Sony, and Resistance 2 should break into the top twenty in mere weeks.  Killzone 2, the next game in their line up, will probably outsell Resistance 2.

Sony's upheaval on the gaming (PS3): start giving attention to the casual gaming.

They've always paid attention to casual gamers.  SingStar has been one of their most popular franchises in Europe for years.  Their Buzz series has been around for quite awhile as well.

yes exactly.

And with them saying they need to focus on software it is almost thinking we may have another Sega on our hands.  No PS4, and who knows what happens to PS3.  But they will keep making games so why should anyone care.  Would Sonics games be a billion times better on a sega system.  No they would be the same.

Totally agreed, I don't see why the gaming division should be untouchable... They've been riding on Sony's cash for the whole generation, I don't see how Sony can justify not stripping off some parts off of SCE.

Expect at the very least the downsizing of several studios. Some sold off studios is likely too. That's the bare minimum.
