Company sources have told The Times that operations across the group are braced for a series of “sacred cow-slaying” measures that they believe will abolish or fundamentally alter many of Sony's long-established business practices.

Sony's upheaval on the gaming (PS3): start giving attention to the casual gaming.

Stringer is going to get the axe...I actually thought he'd get it last year, but ps3 showed some signs of keeping afloat, but others divisions crashed hard.

Actually SCE division crashed really bad last few years .

The focus of research and development must be on software, he said, adding: “The most important thing is that, to improve organisational strength in the areas of development, purchasing and marketing, it will be necessary to further concentrate power in the hands of [Sir Howard] and unless this is achieved we believe [Sony] will be unable to close the gap with competitors such as Apple and Nintendo.”

...This makes me wonder... How much greater a focus on software can we get? Does that mean a shift of focus away from hardware?

That may make sense in the long term, but currently it makes no sense. The userbase of the PS3 is not the kind you'd make nintendoesque casual software for. Only if they make another console once their troubles are over will they go down this route.

A game I'm developing with some friends:

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

During 2009, articles like these will be aplenty so if you're a Sony fan fasten your seatbelt.

yeah a lot of stuff will come to light in 2009 and a lot of stuff will stay in the dark, but the stuff that comes out will make you wonder.

I TAKE NO SIDES

it will be interesting article time when their fiscal years end and we get their financial statements.

Okay so Sony as a whole company has 11.5B USD in debt while Nintendo has about 15B USD that they are sitting on. So therefore Nintendo could buy out Sony... not likely but could possibley work out a deal where they finace their current debt in exchange for something... or something.

Then again there is M$ with its near limitless amount on USD, therefore we could be at a point close to where one of the two buys SCE or scaps SCE, if you think about it more likely M$ would do this than Nintendo but Nintendo benifits from the HD console war so Nintendo might do a favor for SCE or w/e.

"Like you know"

The expected restructuring - considered by many analysts to be occurring far too late - is likely to be announced early next month, with the lion's share of the changes imposed on Sony's domestic Japanese operations in the form of factory closures and the abolition of several major divisions.
