Forums - Microsoft - Xbox Live Arcade Attach Rate: "6-7 per user"

link

Satchell says there are currently more than 7.1 million Xbox Live users and, more surprisingly, those users have conducted more than 45 million downloads on Xbox 360.

Additionally, they're finding the attach rate for Xbox Live Arcade titles is more than 6-7 per user - and that number has doubled in the last four months. By the end of the year, Microsoft expects there to be over a hundred titles on the service; right now there are 77.

---

These Microsoft numbers never make sense to me, there is so much spinning going on.

7.1 million XBL "users": is that Gold or Gold + Silver? Currently active users only?

45 million "downloads on Xbox 360": Is that 45 million Arcade downloads? Of full Arcade games (as opposed to free demo versions)?

6-7 per user attach rate for Xbox Live Arcade titles: Does "per user" include all 7.1 million XBL users?

Some quick math:

45 million downloads / 7.1 million users = 6.338 Arcade titles per user.  So that would fall into the 6-7 attach rate.

If that's actually the case, one would think Microsoft would be clearer about it.

We don't provide the 'easy to program for' console that they [developers] want, because 'easy to program for' means that anybody will be able to take advantage of pretty much what the hardware can do, so the question is what do you do for the rest of the nine and half years? It's a learning process. - SCEI president Kaz Hirai

It's a virus where you buy it and you play it with your friends and they're like, "Oh my God that's so cool, I'm gonna go buy it." So you stop playing it after two months, but they buy it and they stop playing it after two months but they've showed it to someone else who then go out and buy it and so on. Everyone I know bought one and nobody turns it on. - Epic Games president Mike Capps

We have a real culture of thrift. The goal that I had in bringing a lot of the packaged goods folks into Activision about 10 years ago was to take all the fun out of making video games. - Activision CEO Bobby Kotick

well send them a mail to bitch about it lol :P

but the good news for me is they are going to release 33 games on XBLA in about 17 weeks.. that's pretty cool

The 45m number is XBLA downloads only. I believe that the number is just for downloaded XBLA games - trial or otherwise (I assume).

However, MS did release some XBLA numbers ages ago, stating that the sell-through rate of downloaded games was exceptionally high. I believe they said 30% of all downloaded XBLA arcade games are purchased. That'd put the number at somewhere in the 15 million area for paid-for XBLA titles.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

Other interesting XBLA info:

Gold or silver doesn't really matter because both can download content.

Xbox Live Arcade sucks. After playing a 360 game, I can't make the transition to a game with such crappy graphics!

That link says 45 million downloads, it doesn't say 45 million XBLA downloads. That means it could include gamer pics, themes, movie rentals, additional game content....

wow, this XBLA attach rate stuff surely applies to free trials and not full downloads, because I can assure you the only games I own are Hexic HD (free with hard drive) and Texas Hold 'Em (free).

When did Texas Hold'Em become free! ::grumble, grumble:: Why did I pay for it then.

With the whole big fuss about Geometry Wars, I'm surprised it's so low on the list there.

I've only bought one XBLA game so far and it's Alien Hominid.

I also wonder if the free games are included. Hexic that comes with the system and that Pool game that came with the Gold subscription.

Thanks to Blacksaber for the sig!
