Forums - Gaming - Game genres you used to like but now hate

For me it has to be JRPGs. Final Fantasy 7-9 were some of the best games I've played but I just can't get into the genre at all more recently. I guess I've just grown out of the poorly written storylines and tedious gameplay that plagues most JRPGs. I replayed FF8 recently and barely finished disc 1 before deciding to give up. I didn't want to ruin my nostalgia for the game any more than I had done

Any thoughts on other genres?

Most racers are pretty boring to me, although I used to play them a lot as a kid.

I don't like FPS games as much I did when I was a teenager (probably something to do with the fact that Quake came out back then).

My Mario Kart Wii friend code: 2707-1866-0957

RPG's.

The older I get, the less I like games that take up 100 hours of my time. In fact, I actually like much more games I sit down and play for 15-20 minutes than I ever use to.

Platformers.  The last one I enjoyed was Super Mario 3.

Once they moved to 3D, they bored me for some reason.

RTS's. I actually still love the concept but they either start requiring insane micromanagement or insane macromanagement to be fun.

Platformers I kind of half hate. I love 2d platform games but most 3d ones I dislike (most because there are some exceptions, Mario galaxy for one). Same with FPS games, I can't stand FPS games on consoles but on PC I really enjoy them (I hate struggling to aim at and hit stuff), Vegas was still reasonably easy to play on console however.

I like most things RPG, while I love disgera I dislike most other TRPGs

I would also say JRPG's. The just don't seem to innovate much anymore. I was sorely dissapointed with Final Fantasy XII.

Fighting (except for SSFIIHD)
Racing (except for Mario Kart and Burnout)
RPG (except for Fable II)
FPS (period.)

And this is scary. I have 3 consoles, a ton of unplayed games, and I don't have the urge to play anything. If I'm not a gamer anymore, then who am I?

FF12 suffered from a pretty par story and the fact the gambit system played the game for you. FF12 is the only rpg game I have that I can level up my characters while sleeping.

JRPGs for sure, but to be honest it's probably down to the quality of games that have been released in that genre lately. Watched my brother play through Infinite Undiscovery and it was cringe worthy how little things have changed.

Playing: InFamous, Super Robot Taisen OG Saga, Modern Warfare 2

Oh wow i just buy such a wide selection of genres. I think I'm going to have to go with WRPGs. Last one I played and was fully into it was KOTOR. I beat Mass Effect but it just wasn't the same. Elder Scrolls I have not been able to get into so I probably wouldn't get into Fallout. But I'll keep trying.
