Forums - Sony - My PS3 60G does not read Blu-ray any more! error 80010514

I was watching Pirates of the caribbean: AWE and the picture froze! I was like damn another "normal" frozen failure I tried to do normal reset it didn't work, I had to power off from the back switch and after that I got error 80010514 when the PS3 is trying to read games or Blue ray movies.

It's really sad because I'm out of warranty, I bought my PS3 back in July 2007. It was more sad when I google to check the code error and found that this also is happened and is happening to alot of ppl that bought the 60G ps3, and the mayority of the ppl after the 1 year of warranty.

I called sony and they told me that they are going to charge me $150 plus tax to fix my PS3. A very sad day for me because I'm a huge fan of sony brand, never had this problem before with my PSone and PS2 they still work today.

Im a 60GB owner......dont scare me like this.

You better start cleanning your Blu ray len every once in a week you should extent the life of it.

This is what destroyed my 60g model....it never breathed again after that

I hope my 360 doesn't RRoD

My cousin's PS3 is the exact opposite. He can watch DVD's but no Blu-ray discs. I got 15 free games out of the deal, though!!

*edit*  by exact opposite, I meant exactly the same!

Feel fortunate that this is the first Playstation product you had a problem with. I had to replace both my PS1 and PS2. I expect to have to replace my PS3 at some point.

The Problem is now I may actually have to send in to get fixed instead of just picking up a new. I got the 60 gig because I got rid of my PS2 and its my only way to play PS2 games.

my PS1 broke, but thats cause i splilt coke on it! my PS2 has never even hiccuped, which is impressive as i once dropped it down a flight of stairs! (by accident) and i must have spilt loads of stuff on it, yet the thing wont die, lol, my PS3 has been problem free since purchase as well.

@ skipo

You have 2 years EU retailer warranty (so that should go for the UK as well). So approach your retailer, not Sony directly (Sony legally isn't liable for this, you didn't buy the console from them).

Here in the Netherlands we have longer warranty, at least 3 years on the PS3.

Some retailers may try to talk their way out of this, but then write a letter stating your consumer rights and point out they can't hide behind factory warranty. They will have to deal with this free of charge for you, including examination costs, repair and handling costs.

Naughty Dog: "At Naughty Dog, we're pretty sure we should be able to see leaps between games on the PS3 that are even bigger than they were on the PS2."

PS3 vs 360 sales

My UK 60GB model had the same problem recently. No errror message though, it just wouldn't read games properly anymore. But Sony replaced it for free even though it was outside the 1 year warranty, those nice chaps. I'm still disappointed in the supposed reliability of the PS3 though.
