Well, it comes with a game too, but still, they're definitely making more profit off the 160GB:

Extra $10 for larger hard drive
$60 for game.

Except 60$ is the retailer price, my guess is that bundling Uncharted in the box only costs them 30-40$ extra.

Then you have the small cost of the HDD and the voucher for PAIN, so my guess is that this SKU is breaking even, maybe making a couble of dollars in profit.

Uncharted is Sony published game - the only cost they have is whatever Naughty dog gets from it and making physical copy.

I doubt if it's more than 10$.

so overall do you guys think this was to recoup some of sonys losses on the 80gb SKU

Did you mean to say that they could keep charging the same price justifying that there is a bigger hard drive now?

no, that is what they *should* have done and it would have been a good move. but this is sony. They added a 160G drive, which cost THE SAME as an 80g drive right now and upped the price by $100.  That means the 160G units are actually profitable. Assuming they sell any.  Still quite a few kicking around my Best buy.

Another lost opportunity for Sony to add value....sigh...

Trying to convince me the Wii is a real adult game machine 'if you play it right' is like trying to convince me Tofu tastes great 'if you just cook it right'

They couldn't cut the price, so they tried to add value.
