I doubt that it would have faster data rates. Even though the BluRay drive has a red laser for DVDs and CDs I doubt that it will rotate the disc faster for DVDs. So probably no win there.

The trouble is that PS3 drive doesn't read DVD's any faster than BR's so it wouldn't help at all.

This is the kind of technical info I'm looking for. Can anyone confirm or deny? I figure a firmware update could help. Maybe even toss it on the DVD/Blu-Ray. But like someone else said, Sony would avoid this because they've been hyping up Blu-ray for the past couple of years.
