Forums - Sony - How can sony save $1.20 on every console.

Noticed the MEMS gyroscope sensor priced at $1.20 down from $1.80

No game or application on the PS3 has ever used this gyro component. ! The only people who use it are PC owners who use the sixaxis for experimenting with.

The three-axis accelerometer is the only motion sensor used by current PS3 software.

Why would sony not make use of this in any game i would expect it could enhance gameplay alot, but still include it in the controller if it costs $1.20 each and i assume the new version of the PS3 still includes it from this article - it's completly baffling ?

Nintendo Wii go and add on the motion plus to get gyroscopic sensing. Sony do the opposite and purposly fail to use their built in gyro but still pay $1.20 to have a feature which is never used !.

I'm pretty sure the MEMS gyroscope is in the six axis controller, and one controller is included with a PS3.

Yet, today, America's leaders are reenacting every folly that brought these great powers [Russia, Germany, and Japan] to ruin -- from arrogance and hubris, to assertions of global hegemony, to imperial overstretch, to trumpeting new 'crusades,' to handing out war guarantees to regions and countries where Americans have never fought before. We are piling up the kind of commitments that produced the greatest disasters of the twentieth century.
