I love tinkering with my PC it gets a little bit of loving now and again to keep it ticking along. I tend to play most of my games on the PC mainly because I like the keyboard and mouse combo. Also the PC equivalents are normally about a third cheaper to buy.
I do also like playing games on my 360 but they tend to be more family orientated games.
So for me the answer is get the console of choice that suites your gaming needs and a PC for just about everything else. I do not remember you stating that this should be cheap ;) about £1000 should do it or in yesterdays money $2000 or todays money $1500 you gotta love that exchange rate thing.
