Resistance 2 for its co-op campaign.

Sets the benchmark for all future online co-op systems in a game. Outstanding.

But overall, MGS4 and LBP.

MGS4 hands down

Wii Fit. For a game which promotes fitness in a hobby which is not associated with health and fitness.

It has been a good year for stand-out originality, and particularly good for games where the 'goal', whatever it is, is not coded into the game. The games that are sort of the opposite to ones that tell a story.

I would include:
Endless Ocean
LittleBigPlanet
Wii Fit
Wii Music

All of them different, original, compelling in their own way. And each of them something of an acquired taste.

Gears of War 2, GTA IV and Ninja Gaiden 2 were my favorite games of 2008
