no offense, but the lowest priced PS3 is already crippled. can't play ps2 games? thats a joke. sadly, i bought that system, and I still need to keep my PS2.

From what I understand no new PS3's can play PS2 games.

@Phoenix_Wright, what model did you buy?

40 gig

This would be bonkers. PS3 owners wouldnt be able to say 'blu ray makes the ps3 better' because half the consoles wouldnt even have it!

I hope my 360 doesn't RRoD

Its no use ......the PS3 is nearing 20 million sold ,it isnt in danger even if some see it as "doomed" because it isnt in the first place .Sony must simply do what it is doing ,push to have exclusive software with its first and second party allies ,try to cut the price the sooner possible but without removing vital parts of the machine ,etc .

Crippling the machine would confuse the buyers ,and as the games come in Blu Ray this isnt a viable option .

People can speak as much as they want about downloadable games but I want my games in disc ,as most users .The idea of having to swap between HDD to play games is disgusting ,specially since the games of the future will come all in BD of some 50 GB and you will need tons of HDD to store your games .Thats just lame .And the same with the movies ,one thing is to rent one movie by netflix ,but buying downloadable movies and storing them in HDD is a bad idea .

@twesterm, if they do why are they thinking of removing blu-ray and trying to basethe console on the internet service. If that was the case, then Xbox 360 would be number 1 in the console war. They make it seem like a huge problem. I am telling you, all Sony needs to do is keep advertising it well and make the ps3 profitable. Dropping the price at this moment would make things worse.

I think these people really don't understand the gaming industry.

No, I don't think they understand that PS3 games come on BluRay discs...

They do. That's why they talk about downloading the games instead of using discs.

Well, I bought the 80gb last November and it plays Psone and PS2 games. The model you bought doesn't have BC. I thinking only the 80gb has BC.

They may or may not know about gaming, but the base problem is not knowing that PS3 games come on BluRay discs.  Man I would love a PS3 that can't play any of the older games and can't do BluRay discs!

@NJ5, downloading the games on the internet would be a bad idea. IF that happen with every game on every console then there would be no gamestores.
