Home Could Remain in Beta Indefinitely

Jack Buser, director of Home, was kind enough to join us for this podcast.

He let Fahey, Adam and I drop in to his surprisingly stark virtual home on the Playstation 3 were he talked about the future of the free virtual world and surprised all of us by saying there's a good chance it will remain in beta indefinitely.

Just like GMail.

The main issue they have now is the many people unaware of the service's existence.  They should pre-install it on all new ps3s, while giving the user the option to delete it if they so wish.

Who didnt see this coming?

well the icon appears automatically under network if you have the latesst patch. You may need to dl a few megabytes but it's pretty obvious it's there.

so in the end they will continue to add stuff with time, likely in a year home won't be a shadow of what it is now.

funny thing inteviewer was kinda nervious  i heard him freeze for a second trying to say something.

and yes they are adding more mini games, features with the time.

and they said they have partners, universal, bmg at listen@home?

hell they can throw a space for labels and sell music there.

home appears on your xmb with 2.53 installed.

Smartest way to handle things.

Keep it indefinitely in Beta, which can explain away any bugs. It will be in Beta form forever.

In other words 'We spent 6 months developing home, the other year and a half playing world of warcraft, so we have to develop most of it while its live' lol

I do think home will be good in the long run, but it is also a pathetic amount of functionallity for 2 years work, i think the interview is representative of this, millions of ideas, little achieved.

Still at least one of the consoles is taking the bold move of a potentially true fusion system rather than safe (rubbish) 'avatars'.

DMEISTERJ,just like u to give and answer like this u sir or whatever u r are a HYPOCRITE plain and simple,if that was microsoft pulling a stunt like that u would be all over it like white on rice, and @gavind5uk would u rather a never-ending beta(HOME) or a complete overhaul(NXE AVATARS)home does have alot of potential but come on give sony their lick when their deserve them ok people like u guys are the reason sony will do stuff like this to u always u just lay there and take it and even give excuses for being a victim.get a life, wake plssssss.i know i will get it for my post but someone had to say some thing.peace, make comments not WAR.
