I'd agree with you here - Resistance felt like more of the same. Like Quake 1 with new weapons, or something... I kept thinking, "there's got to be something here that made people give this game such high reviews..." Unfortunately, I didn't find anything. It's no Gears of War, that's for sure.

Also, I'll have to warn you against playing R2. I got caught up in the hype (somehow thought it would be a completely different game, stupid me), but it isn't that different. If you dislike R1 as much as I do, stay away from the second. It shouldn't be a problem, there are many more interesting games on the console worth your time.

Actually, the only Insonniac games I've played are R1 / R2. I know should give R&C a go sometime...

It's funny you mention Quake because after going through their conversion plant, it's blatently obvious the Chimera are Strogg.

And actually, playing this game feels kind of like Quake...

Really? I never got a Quake feeling from it. Well, maybe a little.

I got more of a "AvP/Quake/Doom 2/Half-Life/late 90s LucasArts shooters/everything else I can think of" feeling from R:FoM.

All I got from it is "Damn, I've played this game a hundred times before". Maybe it's fresh to you guys who haven't played many shooters past Halo but it was damned stale to me.

You took the words out of my mouth, but really I still can't get over the awkward controls... this game couldn't have gotten into the 8/10s of I was reviewing it...

Like i already said on page 1. The more you play it the better it gets. The first few hours are boring and dull, but then it starts to get better and increasingly more awesome. Ends up being a really great game when you've gone through it all !

What Resistance 2 are you playing twesterm?

Crouch is L2, Fire is R1, Alt Fire is R2, and L1 is Zoom in.

And you can use all four shoulder buttons at the same time. Your index fingers on the 1s and middle fingers on the 2s. It's not that hard.

But R2 is a Sony game so...

Haven't played Resistance 2 yet, I'm still on R:FoM.  That's why I keep saying R:FoM.

Oh goodie.

But still.  You can use all 4 shoulder buttons at the same time.

You can if you use four fingers on the shoulder buttons and I don't know a lot of people that do that.  I know some people that do, but most people only use two (and we actually had a huge discussion about this at work a few weeks ago when we were going over controls).

And I don't know about R2, but even using four fingers crouching and trying to alt fire (or even fire) isn't easy.

I also use two fingers for the shoulders. I find my index finger reaction speed is much quicker and therefore, I play better that way.

The crouching in RFoM was terrible because of that. It's also one of the reasons MGS3's control system made me want to scream.

I use 2 and 4 fingers.. depends on the situation :P 4 fingers give more control in a game like resistance though

I feel that Insomniac Games post Spyro, are an overated developer. Don't get me wrong, the Rachet and Resistance games are decent, but for me they were always lacking that bit of magic that the Spyro games had.

I really liked the single player of FOM but cannot get into the R2.  Mind you i think the online is great.  I played FOM so much that the "Modernisation" of the shooter style in R2 ruined it for me.  It was less of a sequel and more of a remake IMHO.  I missed the weapon selection on hand and the life meter.  I would also add that R2 makes me feel quite ill at times and feel the need to turn it off quickly.  Never happened to me before this game.
