This is a thread of two motivations.
The first is a response to THIS thread and the second is to pre-empt the inevitable irrational expectations threads such as that one will produce followed by the even more inevitable claims that Mass Effect 2 has failed when it fails to meet such ridiculous expectations.
Ultimately, some of the wishes made in the original thread cannot possibly come true. To think for example, that Mass Effect 2 will involve detailed and alternate storylines for every possible combination of significant events individuals brought about in the first title (eg: Wrex dying/not dying, Kaiden dying/not dying, sex with/no sex with Ashley/Liara, letting the council die/live) is silly. Not only would this massively extend development time and costs, but I sincerely doubt all this extra information would fit snuggly on a DVD.
The same is true of all those that want the same number of detailed missions on side-planets, only with different building types and mission types and aliens on each one. Likewise, is it really reasonable to expect more than the seven or eight major species we were presented with in the original title? I mean how many lightspeed-capable intelligent species are meant to have found ancient Prothean ruins that have led them to the discovery of Mass Relays and the rest of the Galaxy?
Mass Effect was easily one of the best titles to come out this generation, and is still up there with the best and arguably the best RPG so far for consoles (to pre-empt Shio coming in here talking about the Witcher for PC *sigh*). So I thought that this thread would be appropriate to negate the potential for the probably brilliant second installment to be criticised based on "not meeting expectations" quality wise.
