The only good thing about FF12 was Revenant Wings, which I really really liked for some strange reason.

I liked FF12. It started slow, but once you get the hang of the gambit system, it's actually faster playing than ATB and random encounters.
I skipped the grinding and hunting parts, and never had problems in the game.
I don't like Vaan much. But a lot were complaining of too many emo guys in FF-- Vaan isn't emo-- so it's a case of "damn if you do damn if you don't" for Square. There will always be a lot of things to nitpick on FF games.
The story sucked. There was nothing surprising about it and the main character was pathetic. If only vaan's brother didn't die. The battle system was the best thing about it, difficult to go back to random battles after playing it. The map was too linear even compared to ffvii and ffviii. There were no minigames and too much emphasis on fighting. Lastly, the end was an anticlimax.

Wow
I cannot imagine disagreeing with anything in more totality.
Vaan wasn't the main character, he was just the perspective that anchored the story early on. Ashe was the primary character.
i like XII more than some of the others people love so much (cough---X). the story was the more mature of all it wasnt all that i love you love me lets save the world¡¡¡ and they knew how to keep the fantasy in it. and the bettle system was something new and i like it.
@khuutra. If Ashe was the main character, I disliked her more than vaan. The most interesting character for me was Balthier. As for the ending, I was waiting for a twist in the story or something. I also disliked the whole star wars vibe.

@Steriod. Despite what I said above I did enjoy ffxii but felt that it could have been better.

Here you might as well just read this, in which I defend Final Fantasy XII and rant (uproariously) about the Star Wars comparisons.
