Forums - Microsoft - 360 tough market for JRPGs: Mistwalker's 3rd game canned

Here's hoping we see more games from them. If the 360 is a tough market for JRPGs (which is kind of harsh, Lost Odyssey sold very well by any standard that isn't DQ or FF) then what console can support them? The Wii might, but it hasn't had any JRPGs to inspire confidence in Mistwalker.

JRPG's are a tough market in general. The genre is dying.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

The genre isn't so much as dying as much as it is just in growing pains in the current gen of consoles.  The Last Remnant and Infinite Undiscovery getting released in a very unpolished state didn't help things.  JRPGs are still fairly popular, it's just that the original Xbox wasn't known for JRPGs and because of that, gamers aren't sure about JRPGs on the 360.  The 360 JRPGs would sell better if the original Xbox had more JRPGs.

6 of Square-Enix's RPG's have sold 1 million or more on the PSP and DS.  Then again, 3 were spinoffs and 3 were remakes.

Then why isn't TWEWY getting those sales numbers despite being a new game and not a remake of something from 15 years ago.  Don't get me wrong, 500K is good for a new IP from Square-Enix but still...
