Forums - Gaming - What exclusives mean to a console IMO!

This topic will always keep popping up somehow. Exclusives do define a console. I mean if there weren't exclusives, why bother having different consoles?

Exclusives are important. They show off a system's power and capability as well as selling consoles to consumers. When a exclusive game goes multiplatform, it has to use a common denominator between systems. This hurts the potential of the game and it does reduce the quality of a game as well (if it went from exclusive status to multiplatform). If it was multi to begin with, nothing to complain about there. As long as it is a good game, I'm all for it .

I know people go crazy over exclusives and they shouldn't, but they shouldn't be all for letting go of exclusives for more people to "experience" them. Like CaptainHarlock said, if you want to experience an exclusive, just buy the console it's on; don't ask for it on another console. If they won't buy the console for it, they don't want it enough (for example, if Metal Gear Solid 4 went multiplatform, the quality would be dumbed down for it to be playable on both systems and it has to give a equal playing experience too. As a fan of the series, that hurts me. I want the best experience playing a game in my favorite franchise. So just buy a PS3 to play it in it's full).

Each system is going to have it's share of exclusives and that's that. I mean if anyone wants to play them, play it on the console it was meant to be on  (talking about 3rd party exclusives by the way).

As for the buying multiplatform games, I do. I mean who doesn't. If I like a game so much, I'll buy it. Simple as that. Sure people want more for their money with exclusive games, but there are multiplatform games that are great to play too. Like I said before, if it's a good game and I like what kind of game it is, I'll be all over it.

What do you guys think about exclusives...does it matter to you?

Yahh they matter, usually its the exclusive that are the best games.

I think the vast majority of games are always going to exclusive and there will always be some games that nearly have to be multi-platform.

Exclusives, as others have said, do indeed define a particular system. When someone says "Nintendo" you think Zelda, Mario, Metroid. When someone says "XBox" you think FPS and Halo. When someone says "Playstation" you think Final Fantasy, Suikoden, God of War, Ratchet and Clank, Jak and Daxter, etc... There is nothing wrong with this. Each console has it's strengths and weaknesses, and developers should play to this to give gamers better games.

On the other side of the coin, games like Madden and license games have to be multi-platform in my opinion. Sports games and Movie games go multi-platform to maximize their profit. Honestly, EA says "Madden '09 will be PS3 exclusive." Who's going to go buy a PS3 just for a football game? (Outside a sports fanatic.) But you say "Halo 3 will be XBox 360 only" and you'll have a lot of people that will buy the system just for that 1 game and maybe a couple of minor ones.

Some developers are going multi-platform with their products to try to get more of their product into households across the globe. For the most part, how many of those games are truely "generation defining?" Think on it for a moment. A vast majority of your cross platform games are good games, but they're not great games. To a point that hurts us, the gamers, but at the same time I don't really think so.

Well I mean history speaking Soriku please don't start anything stupid...I'm just stating a fact about exclusives...so chill out...

history of games teach us that real exclusives are first party games...

pes->multi

ff->multi
dragon quest->multi

resident evil->multi

gta-> multi

oblivion ->multi

pes is not an esclusives as many sonians believe.

as ff,as re...

"some games of the series are exclusives"

but the series is multi!!!!

simply they make exclusive to console maker that pay more...

and most of them are temporal exclusives...

also

exclusives in many cases are not KA for a console.

we have different cases.

so in the end:

mario is an exclusive.

sonic was an exclusive.

pes become multi

ff is becoming multi

things changes...

you can only rely on first party games.

if you base on exclusives when buy a console.

That's what I'm talking about...Not third party its all about first party this generation..since developers want to make money...

Exclusive titles is makes the console what it is, when you think of Mario you think of Nintendo, when you bring up Halo your thinking of Microsoft and when you bring up God of War your thoughts go straight to Sony. Games are what make the consoles what it is. Every system is going to have its fair share of exclusive titles and we should try to keep them on their own system as best as possible. Yes, exclusive games are really important to each console; it’s what drives the consoles.
