Forums - Sony - PS Home is making money ???????

And of course I'm biased. I never denied that.

I've said many times that I don't like Sony. I don't see, however, what that has to do with me not believing your wild numbers, especially the one which says each person purchases one item per 5 minutes.

@FilaBrasileiro: Obviously we're all making estimates. The problem with your estimates is that frankly they don't make any sense.

For starters, you're assuming there are only 320 people logged into Home at any given time (10 instances times 32 people per instance). Unless I'm misunderstanding something, that really makes no sense. That's less people than VGChartz visitors.

Hence the words very conservative, I just used whatever number came to my head for the amount of instances, and that would be 320 people at the "mall" instances, not the whole HOME.

Anyways, whatever man, I guess we'll have to wait until we get some real numbers, I had fun playing math for a change.

I already told you that was based on Leo-J erroneous assumption.

Your biasedness and hate towards Sony makes your arguments less credible IMO, we're all biased, it's human nature, we all have our favorites, it's when you dislike something that makes your arguements hold less weight, you'll downplay Sony's strength and successes and you'll overplay and over analyze their failures and weaknesses...but heh, whatever. I'm off to play some Dead Space.

@FilaBrasileiro: I didn't downplay any of Sony's successes regarding Home. In fact I think you're the one placing unrealistic expectations on it which might not be realized. That's much more harmful than my position here which is that the conservative estimates we're seeing would make Sony happy and are good numbers for micro-transactions alone.

IMO you're setting yourself up for disappointment, but as you said let's wait and see.

How am I setting myself up for dissapointment? Honestly I don't give a flying fuck if Sony makes money or not, if I was seeing some of it then I would care, if Sony drops out the Playstation business then I'll just support whoever has a non Nintendo Wii casual approach, if that's not feasible then I'll support PC only, simple. Why would I care if Sony fails? Unlike you I don't hate companies and set myself up for dissapointment or happyness over multi billion dollar corporations that don't give 2 shits or 3 fucks about me.

$7 million a year is too low, way too fucking low for something like Home, they would barely be breaking even if that was the case, maybe even lose money......and the funny thing is you know that.

willl home be a.... succes??

I don't think anyone has ever answered me, so I will ask again in this thread.

In a different thread I posted:

How much does it cost Sony to run and maintain Home? They say it made more money revenue than their download service, but I'm sure their download service uses a lot less bandwidth since millions of people are not all trying to download movies at the same time.

The video download service also included lots of licensing costs and royalties they have to pay.  With Home there is no big licensing and royalties cost.  So while I believe Home generated lots of revenue, does revenue = profits?  No.  Until I see a comparison of the costs to run Home, and the revenue garnished from it, I do not believe Home is a cash cow.  As with any new service, lots of people had early excitement and since everyone looked identical, if you wanted to be different, you bought a clothes item.  That and all the development costs will have them sitting in the red for a while by itself.
