Forums - Sony - Sony starting permanent European PS3 price cut?

Much smaller cuts seen in Italy here and there, maybe Sony is simply giving OK to unofficial cuts to be decided by resellers.
At the average exchange rate EU prices were almost always inflated, anyway, so it's almost natural they cut them, particularly now that finally Europeans aren't anymore so ready to pay more than justified by VAT difference compared to Americans and Japanese.

^^^yup,,that's what i meant.(it's kinda late here >_> lol)

what about other EU countries?

I just want to see if sony wants to drop the price and avoid the whole refund to recently purchased consoles .

In German and French stores no price cut seems to be made. 399€ everywhere... MediaMarkt, Saturn, Amazon etc.

And why is it only the 300 bundle whose price is lower? All the game bundles are still sold for 399€, even at BartSmit.

Amazing...

Nothing like that happening in Brussels anyway.

Great for Holland,i guess. The 360 is at 120 euro so a ps3 price cut was needed.

no price cut here in Italy...some stores are starting to sell with little discounts (e.g. 369€ or 379€) but I think that it's more like a clearance sale.

If true, this goes against my predictions but it will be amusing to see Sony's financial contortions to deal with the consequences of this price cut.

What predictions are you referring to, NJ?

Regarding permanent PS3 price cuts, I'm not expecting any until SCE can be profitable at the same time, which I don't think will be the case before late 2009. Sony's CFO stated in their financial report that they expected profitability late in the fiscal year, but that has surely been delayed by the euro/dollar weakness.

Price cut consequences can be temper by software. Easily. Arcade definitely cost more than $199 to manufacture. Despite this I don't expect to see Microsoft in red.

Personally I believe Sony has  plenty of time for a price cut. Sales are good. Sony sold more in two years than Microsoft in same period. I think they will also outsell Microsoft in third year.

This gen one system is not enough for most developers. No1 is going to ignore 20 million PS3.

I don't think Microsoft will be in the red due to the price cuts, but remember that they have three models and they can recoup any potential Arcade losses on the Premium/Elite models. Software also helps of course, but a 100 € price cut means you have to sell an additional 5-10 games per console to break even. That's a lot of software.

How about a motorstorm 2 or LBP bundle (40GB) @ 332,50

Temporary or permanent, it's move of desparation, since they were adamant about no price cuts soon...what's soon? 3-4 weeks...lol. They are getting hammered, and they need to do something, but it might be too little too late.

Just got back from my first workday since last Sunday.
Apparently, all PS3 bundles have been put back at the old prices listed in the OP.
So it was just a very very short promo thingy or something.
Apparently, Sony immediatly sent out e-mails to almost every store that had the price cut, asking to put the prices back to normal.
We still don't know why Sony did this, so I still think its pretty damn weird.
On the other hand, I'm one of the few people that bought a PS3 for just 220 euros :)

You aint found shit!
