Forums - Sony - The Wait Is Over: Why Now Is The Time To Buy A PS3

The main idea of this article is "buy PS3 now, and you'll be able to watch DVDs and play your favourite PS1/2 games freely". Excuse me, I usually buy a console in order to play games for this console, and "high quality exclusive games" will not be released this year.

If anything, now is the time to pick up a 360. PS3 will have to wait another 6-9 months in my opinion (I won't be even looking at them for at least 2 years, but you can blame that on the still "$999 AU" price tag we have here).

No better time then now to pick up a 360 and get the jolly red ring of death.

Persumably, the RRoD issues are being fixed right now and should be resolved in the newly-stocked ones soon. Taking pot shots is pretty low, Hus.

You guys know Hus has a point..
the RRod issue is still being fixed so its better to wait it out till new stock arrives..
so now is not the time to pick up a 360..

The time RRoD is really fixed is when the new 65 nano chip 360s will be out, and thats not till 08

Getting a new 360 right now would be retarded, at least wait for the new 360s to come with the problem fixers and the hdmi ports.

I would wait till these new 360s hit stores before I buy a 360 now, but if you like feeling like you missed out on it just cause you couldn't wait a month or two then by all means go ahead and buy a 360 now.

Thanks to Blacksaber for the sig!

I picked up a PS3 three weeks ago - a 20 GB at FYE for $400 (included Talledega Nights). The price was right, the five free BD discs plus the $125 for giftcertificates.com I got from work that I didn't know what to do with. My out the door price was $306.

I don't miss the extra hard drive space (I'm not going to download movies or full games) and don't need the Wi-Fi or memory readers. I'm disappointed with the controller (too light, no real triggers), having to install demos (it's a console, for Pete's sake), manditory XMB updates every few weeks, and too few demos and trailers. Plus, XMB and the Playstation Store aren't as good as the Xbox 360 dashboard and Xbox Marketplace. But Resistance is cool and the Heavenly Sword demo is the prettiest game I've ever seen!

I'm really looking forward to Drake, but not MGS4 (never been a fan) or KillZone 2. I love First Person Shooters, but I suspect that KillZone 2's gameplay will fail to impress, just like KillZone 1, aka the Halo killer. God Of War 3 also excites me, whenever it's slated for release.

LOL! The "jolly red ring of death". Sounds much better than the plain ol' "red ring of death."

But in all seriousness, I am going to avoid the PS3 until it is like $199. LOL. I'm just cheap with consoles, I guess. The only console I bought for over $200 was the Wii. And I actually agree with Hus, I'll probably wait til the 360s have been fully rotated and restocked with working/nonRROD models.

And I wouldn't say the Blu-ray/HD-DVD thing is quite through yet, although Blu-ray is very much ahead. Of course they are still battling over ~1% of the total movie market, anyway.

Man, it's almost like you could buy a PS2 and play all your PS1/PS2 games perfectly and watch DVDs, and that only costs $129 new.

Now is NOT the time to buy a PS3.

It costs still to much $$$ for the average consumer and all the games he listed are a ways away yet.

Until the PS3 is under $300 and has a long list of upcomming third party exclusive games I will not even consider it as an option
