i use my xbox to watch various videofiles on my TV, but it's growing old,
it can't handle the latest stuff!

What about the ps3 using linux?

Does it run mkv/hi-def/h.264/aac 6 ch./karaoke ssa videofiles ? 

Anyone tried that?

Any framedrops or limitations?

p.s.
Im not interested in streaming video clients like VLC, DLNA or converting.

mkv and ssa might never be officially supported by sony!

So the proper way is going to use linux.
Linux/Mplayer on a fast x86 Dual-Core runs everything i want.

But im not sure if the ps3 is "fast" enuff.

The main resaons for my concerns are:
- MPlayer/Linux might not be optimized
- You can't use the RSX properly under linux (slower)
