Rumour: PSP-4000 coming late 2009, PSP2 to follow

Remember Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) President David Reeves telling the world that there are "no plans" for a PlayStation Portable 2? He wasn't being entirely accurate, if certain eagle-eyed snoops are to be believed.

"Publishing sources" have told Eurogamer that a successor to the well-muscled handheld is indeed in the works. Excitingly enough, developers are said to be already creating games for the new platform.

Don't expect the original PSP to disappear under the carpet, though. Those same sources have revealed that a third hardware revision - the PSP-4000 - will make an appearance in late 2009. The PSP2 will be coming "later" - we've got our money on summer 2010.

Predictably enough, Sony UK has refused to comment on what it terms rumour and speculation. Let's keep our fingers crossed for a second analogue stick.

If true that is very cool.. you can't really trust reeves anyways :P Like they say, hopefully psp 2 will feature a second analogue stick. That would be awesome. And hdmi connection for the tv XD .. but if it's true i think ima hold off with the 4000 and wait for psp2. But lets see what happens :P (i have a psp2000)

and with these huge losses: 3.3bil 1.6bil in US$

what's the point of releasing ANOTHER hardware revisions and a PSP2

sorry...I don't believe this

maybe a PSP2 in 2010 or a PSP4000 in 2010 but next year ANOTHER revision..and after that a successor?! omg..


IF that happens..I'm seriously jumping on the "Sony=d00med" bandwagon

 

If they can afford that they'r hardly doomed are they ? anyways i think psp2 will be 2010

Sounds good to me. PSP 3000 is a failure because of the screen. Give it a fourth and final shot with a PSP 4000. Give it 2 gig internal memory, better screen, better battery life and i'll buy it.

PSP2 should drop the UMD drive, all software download from the playstation store. Have 2 analog nubs, 4 gig internal memory, better graphics.

hmm well look at it this way..they need the money..

yet they're going to release another handheld that sells at a loss but gains money on software?...

how much will it cost to manufacture? does it mean the price will be higher..

if the price isn't higher are there any substantial changes?

I don't get that move..unless they're pulling a Nintendo with something innovative..(highly doubt that)

the successor will have better resolution, better light, cost more, more buttons. fatter than PSP, or thinner (just adds to the cost) and bad battery life (if they add more it adds even more to costs) some type of anti-piracy things..

how much do you think each PSP2 will cost?

I'd say..between $200 and $300

my best guess being closer to $300


if it does not cost this much it will not have improved in the qualities Sony worships..wich means..innovation?

we'll see


personally..it seems like an idiotic move

PSP is not selling at a loss, its the only money maker hardware wise for them.

no..PS2 used to sell at a loss..by now it's a profit..

but at the start PS2 sold at a loss

and okay..that's good to know..

I hope that they don't overdo themselves..please..

another PS3 failure...will bankrupt them badly

Does this mean that the PSP isn't included in the 10 year life cycle plan at Sony?? Did Sony lie to us?? Or was that only for the consoles?



Boycotting the following:

1. Yoshi: He ate my car and spit out a toaster.

2. Igglybuff: Totally false advertisement. You can have as many as you like they don't buff nothing.

3. the Terms Hardcore/Softcore... We're talking Video Games. Not Porn.

4. The term Casual as relates to Gamers: We make them sound like outsider's that happen to play games.  If that were the case they'd own a PS3.

5. Donuts.... Beacause I drink Beer...... and the biggest fan of Donuts hates Beer.

6. Boycotts: Their so lame.
