Forums - Sony Discussion - Shuhei Yoshida: We have 5 RPGs in development

I was wondering when Sony was going to get around to releasing their on RPGs. They have quite a few IPs and I figured we'd have seen one by now. Although the last few have been on the average side, I wouldn't mind see a new Wild Arms game. The "American West" motif always gave them a unique feel and they were usually challenging yet fun.

I think they have been making them for a while, once they realized their third parties weren't supporting them as much.  But, Sony trying not to announce games so far in advanced.

If MS can go from being the complete "LOL Halo/Gears/FPS" joke console in Japan to a respectably losing competitor (eg. GC, PS3, N64) with a few jRPGs, then it finally might be showing Sony what needs to happen.

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials

Shuhei Yoshida finally answers the burning question on many, many, many hardcore gamers minds... Where the fuck are the RPG's!!!!?? In a poorly translated Japanese interview from a recent Famitsu magazine a good soul who visits the site has been able to piece together 3 things for us ...

1 - Sony is disappointed in their Japanese business model at the moment
2 - Sony is working on 3rd party relations
3 - Sony is developing 5 RPG's internally for their fanbase

While we already knew 2 of those things we, or at least I, didn't know the last one... I remember seeing an incredible looking series of Screenshots from the now defunct Gamesblow's website in which he said were Legend of Dragoon 2... they were absolutely mind blowing for an RPG. I can only hope one of these is in fact LOD2. We also know Dark Cloud 3 is being worked on... but the other 3 seem like a mystery to me.
