Avira has the smallest footprint of all the free anti-virus.

AVG used to be good, but is becoming a worse resource hog than Norton.

I like Avast! a little more than NOD32, and its free. NOD32 is less resource consuming though, but If you have a decent machine Avast! will do the work pretty well. The best think to do, no matter which antivirus you have, is stay away from porn! xP
