The 4k argument is pretty pointless anyway.
It's the same thing as saying since there are cars like the Bugatti Veyron that can go 250mph, all cars are the fastest and best means of ground transportation for getting from point A to B.
Very few individual users own personal 4k displays, and just as few own the VGA solutions needed to run high end games at those resolutions at smooth frame rates with max effects to make them look as impressive as they do in promotional still shots.
Falcon Northwest systems aren't exactly as common as Toyota Camrys.
Maybe in X number of years, but even then I still have a hard time seeing 30"+ computer desk top displays as standard equipment for gaming.
At that point, you're probably better off gaming on the same big flat screen panel used for watching HDTV and video sources.
Of course it doesn't take a Falcon Northwest, or even a $1000 gaming PC to handily outperform any console.
But consoles have made a huge leap in the current generation and while they will never bridge the gap to high end gaming rigs (impossible since max available specs change in 6-12 month intervals at most), they are a fine replacement for those who don't particularly enjoy configuring software and hardware more than or as much as they enjoy simply playing games.
The majority of gamers don't build their own systems and are perfectly happy with the current crop of consoles.
