Forums - Sony Discussion - PS3 Blu-Ray performance comparisons vs competing players

I guess PC Blu-Ray players in terms of boot-up speeds have or will have an advantage in the future. But that's not much of a competition as an elegant living room solution for most consumers.

Well, I refuse to believe that they don't have a better living room player coming... Is that eject time in seconds? If it is, that's really terrible for the non-PS3 players...

So the PS3 drive spinning slow is a good thing?

Crazy.

With regard to noise production and potential wearing issues yes.

Vs the 360, one dual layer DVD spin equals much less data being read per spin than for Blu-Ray disc (one single track holds far less data). This results into fewer spins per second being needed for reading an equal amount of data.

Yes, but that's while playing a movie. The other drives take more time to stop spinning the disc, etc.

Despite the lower mandatory bitrates for HD-DVD compared to Blu-Ray drives, HD-DVD drive load times and eject times were well worse.
