You are actually mistaken.  Last gen the hardcore had gamecubes and PS2.  The PS2 was the casual and hard core console.

We should make a week where no console names are allowed to be mentioned at all. No talk on any consoles. Console names will have to be taken out of people's signatures and everything.

I agree. But I also shiver at the thought of all 3 manufacturers following the same mantra next generation and only making "family oriented & interactive" games. I think the market can easily hold both a Wii-style & 360/PS3 style system. But two systems that are precisely the same type of system in any one generation usually doesn't work and is overkill.

^^^ hate to tell you, but this industry is all about Innovators and Imitators. I have a strong hunch that next gen we will have only HD consoles with motion sensing controls. My only wish is that Wirless N is officially drafted so they can update the wireless speeds.

Well I really hope someone throws in the towel next gen (won't happen though, so I'm not fooling myself with petty thoughts).  One can only dream of such concepts (like world peace & eliminating poverty).

HD will be the standard next gen, and of course, motion controls. 

I for one wouldn't want to play COD with motion controls.  I prefer shooters to stick to the old concept.  Besides, I love my Wii, but it makes my arms tired after awhile.  I gotta give my thumbs some excercise too!
